My friend suggested that I come to the centre as I was really worried about a painful rash in my genital area. I was nervous, but all the staff were really friendly and made me feel at ease. I didn’t have to wait long and the doctor I saw seemed to really know what she was talking about. They took a range of swabs and a blood test and a week later I had a text telling me all my tests were clear, which was a real relief. I will definitely go back again if I need a check up or any contraception in the future.

I’ve been coming to the centre for years as I get discharge quite often. When I first started coming I used to have to wait for ages but I knew I’d always get seen and get the treatment I needed for free. Now they’ve changed the system so I can choose whether just to turn up and be given a time slot for when I’ll be seen, or even better, I can text for a time slot the next day so I turn up at the right time and get seen really quickly. That way I don’t need to miss too much work. They’ve improved the waiting room too and it looks much nicer. Everyone I meet there is always very friendly and they know what they’re talking about.

I was kind of nervous coming to the clinic. I knew I had to come as things didn't feel right down below but I was worried about the examination. One friend told me that it would be really painful as they use a small umbrella shaped swab. Well, he was completely wrong. It was a little bit uncomfortable but much better than I expected. Everyone was cool and friendly. I was told I’d got NSU - and they gave me antibiotics on the same day. They explained everything really well so when my girlfriend asked me lots of questions I could answer them all. Going to the clinic really calmed my nerves.

You’re not always sure about whether a clinic is really gay friendly and whether they’ll be able to help with any symptoms or concerns you have as a gay man. But the service I had at Barts was excellent. I was so anxious as I’d had unprotected sex with a guy and was worried about HIV. The doctor and health adviser explained how I could take post exposure prophylaxis. They made sure I knew all my options and helped me make an informed decision. They realised that I was nervous about other sexually related issues and organised much-needed psychological support. Everyone who looked after me was great and made me feel relaxed during the whole process.

I found out about AKC through the internet and texted for a Saturday slot. When I got to the clinic I didn’t have to wait long before I was seen. The nurse was really professional and I took a swab myself in the loo. I also had some blood tests. One week later I got the all clear. Very impressed.

I went to AKC for a check-up as I’d been experiencing itching and discharge on and off for ages. I kept treating myself for thrush but it kept coming back. Having discussed this with the doctor in the clinic, I was referred to see a consultant. She performed some more tests and gave be a course of treatment that means that I have now been symptom free for 5 months, which is such a relief! The staff at AKC have been fantastic. I’d really recommend the service.

I was first diagnosed with herpes about one year ago. The first time I had it, it was really painful and I was so upset when they confirmed it was herpes. But I have to say the care, advice and support I received at AKC was wonderful. They made me feel comfortable and helped me with all my concerns in such a kind way. I’ve had a couple of far less painful episodes since and the staff have always been kind and down-to-earth.

I’ve visited Barts Sexual Health Centre now for a number of years. It’s always been efficient, helpful and discreet. Over the last few years I find that waiting times have really improved, even in the walk-in clinic, and I think the service is excellent. The staff are friendly, approachable and very helpful, in particular the reception staff.

I’ve used the Open Doors service for many years. I’m always happy with the service because everyone listens and it’s really thorough. After appointments I come out feeling like I’ve addressed all my concerns and that’s really important to me. Kim (the specialist nurse) is just great. She is so kind and approachable. Whenever I need additional support I can contact her and she will organise any help she can. It makes such a difference. Every time I see a new girl working, I always advise them to keep up to date with sexual health screens and come to AKC!
