The Haven Whitechapel is a sexual assault referral centre close to The Ambrose King Centre. It is a specialist centre in London for people who have been raped or sexually assaulted.
What does the term ‘rape’ include?
Rape can include oral, vaginal or anal penetration by a penis when it is against your will. Assault by penetration can include penetration of the vagina or anus by an object or a finger. Sexual assault is intentional sexual touching without your consent. If this has happened to you, we strongly advise that you contact the Haven Whitechapel.
I have been assaulted, who can I talk to?
If you telephone the Haven you will speak to a nurse or crisis worker who will go through options available to help you arrange appropriate medical care and help from the police if you want this. The Haven does not provide a walk-in service – you will need to contact them for an appointment on 020 7247 4787.
If you report sexual assault to the police, they will also liaise with the Haven about your medical and forensic options.
Young person’s worker
The Haven Whitechapel has a young person’s worker. As a young person, you have a right to confidentiality. However, the professional people you talk to might need to speak to a doctor or social worker if they are worried about your safety. They will discuss this with you so you have the chance to raise concerns. They will take any concerns you have seriously.
Asian development worker
The Haven Whitechapel has an Asian development worker who is specially trained to help you deal with the cultural challenges a South East Asian woman or young girl over 13 may experience.
